Hello Music World!
Before we go to the next segment let’s take a look at this Magazine photo session that took place in Hollywood prior to the tour. New Hair Magazine out of Tokyo was the publisher, and the entire band got some bad ass hair styling, and top of the line photography. Here’s one photo of me showing off my new hair style. I will post more outtakes at a later time, and they will be located in the media section. Just hit the photo button
Here are a few high lights of the session: The trip back south to Tokyo seemed a lot faster for our Pop Rock Group “Between The Two” than going up to Sendai City. After a couple of gigs in Tokyo, The “Tabaki House”, and the “Golden Gesiaki”….(sorry if the spelling is wrong, it’s been a long time..) We hung out in the ciy for a while with scheduled band rehersals and skating practice.
Yes thats right… skating sessions. You see we did this video & song on our first record named “Roller Disco”, that pretty much sold the tour. (Check You Tube…”Roller Disco”). We had a cool show, but in places where the flooring surface was bad, it was extremely difficult to manuver and perform propertly. However, we made it happen just the same…It was suggested by management we follow through with the skating gimmick to as we all know, make money. And we did, soon the skates were history as we headed south, as you will see later.
I had the chance with a couple of band mates to meet members of The B-52’S attending our performance at the Tabaki House, What a cool thing that was!!
There were also the people from New Hair Magazine, one of the promoters for the tour.
Here’s a cool shot of Mount Fugi in the distant….We were on a slow moving train down south to Otemachi Numazu City Shizuoka. We performed 2 shows at “The Scramble House” Cafe & Twilight Disco.
After a jammed packed night at the Scramble House, the next afternoon we headed further south to the Kyushu Island. We landed in a city name of Kumamoto, and Kumamoto would be the City I returned to 1-1/2 years later with my own group.
We arrived there a week before Christmas, and it was really cold. Our band from good ole Sunny Southern California just were not cut out for dealing with brutal cold weather, so we stayed inside the hotels for comfort until soundcheck at the club. After our first show, the club owner insisted to our tour manager that the damn skates must go. So just like that, the skates were history. It was a challenge that I and other members overcame, but we all were happy to hang up the dreaded skates. We did several shows during and after the holidays, and got the opportunity to witness Christmas “Japanese Style” Their celebration for the New Year was very interesting with everything completely shutdown for 1 week. We hung out in and around the hotel, friends we made were so nice to show us the city.
A couple of the staff that worked at The Soul Trip…. We headed back to Tokyo.
Unfortuntely the trip back to Tokyo had bad news waiting. Somehow the Tour Agent and our Management had a big disagreement in how they wanted to promote & sell to other markets, the remainder of the tour without rollerskates. For it would not work for the Tour Agency. The tour was ended because we really didn’t want to be portrayed as a circus act by any means, and neither did our management. We were very skilled and serious musicians. So 2 day’s later we were headed back to Los Angeles. It was definitley a life changing experience for everyone.
However, I did make some connection with the club owner where we performed. My trip back to Kumamoto 1-1/2 years later setup the next three years of living in that wonderful country.
THANK YOU FOR STOPPING IN!!!!!
